Voices of Limerick, one of the lucky recipients of a grant from the City of Culture, are delighted to confirm that all arrangements are confirmed for our Gala Concert , CLASSICS FOR CULTURE in the University Concert Hall, Limerick, on Saturday 29th November 2014.
Having entertained Limerick audiences since 1992, Voices of Limerick, under the guidance of musical director Colette Davis, will return to celebrate Limerick’s year as City of Culture with an evening of opera, operetta and choral music. CLASSICS FOR CULTURE will include pieces from Verdi, Mozart and Puccini and a specially commissioned piece by Colman Pearce.
The accompanist is Phillip Thomas, friend and honorary life member of the choir. Phillip works as conductor, accompanist and voice coach and is in demand world-over. Since 1995 he has been an official accompanist for the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, the world’s most prestigious singing competition, held every two years in Wales. We are thrilled to have Phillip accompany us yet again on this wonderful occasion.
The Welsh tenor Adriano Graziani and the Polish soprano Anna Jeruc-Kopec will perform with the choir.
Adriano is a UK-based singer with a bright and sweeping Spinto tenor voice. A review of his recent performance in Tosca said “he sang with that kind of rapturous abandon that reminds you why, for all the wrong things that one curses tenors for, they are still, at their best, an irreplaceable source of musical nourishment. Graziani must be about to hit the big time.”
Anna is a UK-based, Polish Soprano who recently played Violetta in La Traviata at the Wexford Opera Festival. Anna has received rave reviews, for her beautiful warm voice, her marvellous technique and her interpretation of Verdi .“Polish born soprano Anna Jeruc-Kopec was an intense, brilliant-edged Violetta, full of vocal thrills; her robustness in the early part of the opera made her seem all the more touching in her demise.”
Limerick’s own Lorcan Murray, Lyric FM presenter, will compere the evening.
Tickets for this event are €20/concessions €18 and are available from the University Concert Hall.
Join us on Saturday 29 November for an evening’s entertainment you will not want to miss.
